What is PEL?
WPS created the Provincial Elite League (PEL) to give the opportunity for athletes to compete in full FINA regulation games with, and against, other athletes in the province. This year, WPS invites athletes of all ages to participate in 1 of the 2 divisions: Development (~15U) + Open (16+). In previous years, the Open League was referred to as the Jungle (Women's) + Savannah (Men's) League.
2022 season update: Due to conflicts with 17U NCL events, there will be no Open League (Jungle/Savannah) this year.
UPDATE - January 18, 2022 - In order to keep offering a competitive environment to our HC and HSE athletes in February, WPS will start the PEL (provincial Elite League) for the Open Men and Women categories. The schedule will be finalized shortly and selected athletes will receive an invitation to register. Teams will be made from athletes independently of their club of origin.
Each athlete will with this program have the opportunity to play an additional 7 or 8 games to compensate for the NCL event canceled in January and February.
The cost of the PEL will be $80 as per the Development division that has already started.
Who can play?
PEL Development is an inclusive league. Athletes DO NOT have to be in our DC/HC programs to participate in the PEL Development divsion.
2022 Age Cutoffs*:
*Athletes born outside of these age ranges can request an exemption by sending an email to Taylor (taylor@wpsask.ca). Once an Athlete Age Exemption Request and Waiver has been submitted, the request will be reviewed by the PEL committee.
PEL Open is a select athlete league with WPS inviting the top high-performance athletes in the province to compete. This league consists of athletes from our HC and HSE programs as well as Sask alumni.
When is PEL?
Games run throughout the winter and spring to offer our athletes more opportunities to play games in preparation for tournaments/events. Head to our calendar for more details on PEL event dates/times.
