Athlete Pathway
Athlete Pathways in Saskatchewan
The athlete pathway chart below is a visual representation of the options athletes have through water polo in Saskatchewan.
- Participation (Active For Life) is the recreational pathway for all ages. These athletes will train with their respective home clubs throughout the week and may sign up for additional competition on a provincial level. These events include competing against other clubs in the province.
- Competition is the competitive pathway for ages 14+. These athletes will train with their respective home clubs and add an additional training with the provincial centres (DC, HC, or HSE). These athletes, with the required eligibility (found in our Operational Policies document at '8.0 Provincial and National Competition'), are eligible for team selection to the National Championship League, hosted by Water Polo Canada. NCL competition includes travel to competitions throughout Western Canada for the regular season games.
- Excellence is the competitive pathway for athletes selected to a national team, or after graduating high school. Eligibility for a national team selection (ages 14+) includes training at the Regional Development Centre, which is the High School Excellence program in Regina. A number of Team Sask athletes have been awarded a scholarship opportunity or team spot on an NCAA University in the USA, or a University water polo team in Canada.
